It was channel 17 which was later occupied by PBS member channel WPLG. It canceled its production briefly after losing the ABC association. There was a Congressional investigation of a former FCC commissioner named Richard A. Mack. In 1958 he exposed that a Miami attorney named Thurman A. Whiteside was working on behalf of local Airlines. He had bribed the former commissioner to attain the WPST telecast permit. As a result, local Airlines lost their permit to run WPST-TV.

The FCC canceled National Airlines’ permit. After that, a team led by Cincinnati-area telecaster L. B. Wilson was given a development permit. It was to build a new television channel on channel 10.
