Both stations have a common studio facility and technical premises are situated in Colden, New York, and the transmitter tower is installed in North Buffalo on Elmwood Avenue. The main control room and some other operational activities are run from the Springfield in which WWLP operated. On May 14, 1948, the transmission services of the station were launched with call signs of WBEN-TV. It became the first Buffalo television station and oldest in the New York region. The founder of the outlet was the Butler family and also owned the newspaper of Buffalo Evening along with the radio broadcasting of WBEN. CBS radio association was adopted by the channel in 1928 and channel 4 also intended to adopt NBC programming. In January 1949, the CBS association was carried out by WBEN and it remained the Buffalo only station for a couple of years. The call letters were changed due to the same ownership rule in the market which cannot be allowed by the mandate of the Federal Communications Commission in the United States. In 1994, CBS affiliation was suspended by the WIVB, and signed a new contract with the NBC network. LIN TV announced it bought WIVB in 1995 and the CBS network purchased the King World in 2000.
