KWTV CBS was the very first television to go on air in Oklahoma. On June 6, 1949, the channel started its functions. Griffin struggled to retain a grant to run television in Oklahoma City. In October 1938, he took his first step in telecasting industry. Hearst Radio sold regional radio channel KWTV CBS 1520 AM to John Taylor Griffin. It is now KOKC. The sale was made for $315,000. He wrote a competing development permit application to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under two individual companies in which he held proprietorship welfares.
