Both the channels have joint offices on East Rosewood Street in East Tucson. KGUN news transmitting tower is situated atop Mount Bigelow, northeast of Tucson. It is known as “K-GUN”. On January 24, 1957, Ingram sold the channel to H. U. Garrett. After that on March 14, 1957, Garrett reformed the channel’s call sign to KGUN. Change played a great role. It was because Garrett was worried about imaginable negative connotations with the letters “DWI.” Cincinnati meatpacker Henry S. Hilberg bought the channel from Garrett.

On February 1, 1961, he gave a new name to the permit of KGUN ABC News. In 1964, Gilmore Broadcasting bought both KGUN and WEHT in Evansville, Indiana from Hilberg. Later in 1968, Gilmore auctioned it to May Broadcasting. In December of 1986, May then sold KGUN and fellow channel KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska to Lee Enterprises. Later in 2000, Emmis Communications bought all the channels from Lee.

In 2005, Emmis settled all of its television properties. He sent KGUN and control of KMTV to the Milwaukee-based Journal Broadcast Group. They already had four radio channels in Tucson under their authority. In December 2005, the sale was confirmed. On March 18, 2008, Journal declared ideas to buy CW associate KWBA-TV from Cascade Broadcasting Group.
