In 1951, Storer Telecasting purchased KEYL and KABC. They were on good terms with CBS. KENS CBS 5 call signs were altered to KGBS-TV on February 1, 1954. Later on, on March 1, KABC’s calls were altered in order to match with its fellow television channel, KGBS. In November of that same year, Storer had no option but to auction sell KGBS-AM-TV to the San Antonio Express-News. This was done in order to complete the company’s purchase of WJW in Cleveland.
