On August 2, 1953, frequency 13 went on the air as KMO-TV. It was under the authority of KKMO. In the beginning, it was owned by Carl Haymond. For its first year, the channel runs some shows from NBC production. Later on, on December 11, Seattle-certified KCPQ Q13 (frequency 4) began its transmission. The channel had poor signal and lacked alternate sources of production from north of Tacoma.
